Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri is a small town in Agra District of Uttar Pradesh state of India. Fatehpur Sikri was founded in the year 1571 as capital of Mughal Empire by King Akbar. Fatehpur Sikri was built to honor Sheikh Salim Chisti who predicted of the birth of a Mughal heir. Fatehpur Sikr I is 11 km long fortification wall which has many gateways. Fatehpur Sikri remains the capital of Mughal Dynasty from 1571 to 1585 after which King Akbar abandoned it due to a problem in Punbjab. Fatehpur Sikri name came from the village in that area called Sikri. Fatehpur Sikri a UNESCO World Heritage site is a famous tourist attraction within the reach of Agra. Fatehpur Sikri is a beautiful example of rich Mughal architecture. Inside Fatehpur Sikri there are other points of attraction like Jodha Bai’s Palace, Buland Darwaza, Tomb of Salim Chisti and Jama Mosque. Fatehpur Sikri is an indo Islamic masterpiece. However, due to shortage of water in the area Fatehpur Sikri was completely abandoned as soon as soon as Akbar died.
