Jama Masjid

Jama Masjid also famous as Jumah Mosque is located in Ahmedabad City of Gujarat, India. Jama Masjid was constructed by Ahmed Shah I in 1424. Jama Masjid is located outside Bhadra Fort in Old Walled City of Ahmedabad. Not only a Shrine but Jama Masjid also have the tombs of Ahmed Shah I his son and his grandson along with graves of queens of the king. Jama Masjid is built of sandstone and also it is believed that in the construction of Jama Masjid, pieces of demolished Hindu and Jain temples were used. The black slab which is close to the arch is believed to be the base of Jain idol. During that time Jama Masjid was probably the largest mosque of the Indian subcontinent. The beauty of the Jama Masjid lies in its three archways which are skillfully balanced and places. Jama Masjid has around 15 domes and 300 pillars which are standing one after another. The beauty of these pillars is that space between these pillars makes a series of a square bay which is crowned by a domed roof.
