Gandhi Sarovar is a small lake holding crystal clear water and is also known as Chorabari Tal because it is situated at the mouth of the Chorabari Bamak glacier. Chorabari Tal lies at the foot of Kedarnath and Kirthi Stambh peaks at an altitude of 3,900mts above sea level. The crystal-clear water of Chorabari Tal offers splendid views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks. The lake is located about 3 km from the Kedarnath temple. In Chorbari lake, some of the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed, after which it was renamed to Gandhi Sarovar. According to the legend, it was at Chorabari Lake that Lord Shiva imparted the knowledge of yoga to the Saptrishis. The Gandhi Sarovar originates from the Chorabari Bamak Glacier. The mesmeric Madhu Ganga Waterfalls Madhu Ganga waterfall enroute to this lake.
