About Gurdwara Bangla Sahib

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most important religious place for Sikh Religion in Delhi, India. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is known for its association with the Eighth Guru of Sikh, Guru Har Kirishan Sahib Jee. Bangla Sahib was constructed as a small shrine by than Sikh General Sardar Bhagel Singh dhaliwal in the year 1783, who was taking care of building of nine Sikh Shrines in Delhi. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is situated near Gol Dak Khana near to Cannaught Place. There is a pavitra sarovar (Sacred pond) inside the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib where devotees take bath and believed that a holy dip in this sarovar will wash their all sins. It is believed that Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji stayed here during their visit o Delhi in 1664. While staying here Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji came to know that people are suffering from small pox and cholera epidemic, he cured them by giving them fresh water of the well which was built at their place. It is believe that he took people’s suffering on his body and therefore, he died on March 30, 1664. After Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji’s death a big tank was built. This water is believed to still have medicinal properties. Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is open of all creeds, faiths and castes. Bangla Sahib Gurudwara is managed by Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, which also celebrates the birth of Guru Sri Harkrishan Sahib and also death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Jee. Inside the compound of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, there is an Langar Hall (Community Kitchen) where devotees cook and serve free to the people. Bangla Sahib Gurudwara has a gold plated Dome as well as interior walls of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib are Gold Plated. Bangla Sahib Gurudwara also has libraray, hospital, Bab Baghel Singh Museum, higher secondary girls school and an art gallery. Nearest Metro Station is Rajiv Chowk on Blue Line and Yellow Line to reach Bangla Sahib Gurudwara.
