About India Gate
The India Gate originally called the All India War Memorial. It is located on the eastern end Rajpath formerly called Kingsway. It is about 138 feet in height and it is designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is made up of Red and yellow sandstones sourced from Bharatpur. This memorial was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi on 26th January 1972. A small structure made of black marble with a reversed rifle holding a war helmet on top was built under the arch and it is called Amar Jawan Jyoti. You can enjoy the parade passes through India Gate on 26 January Republic day. India Gate is best to visit throughout the year but evening after 7 pm is the best time to enjoy. There are no entry charges for visiting The India Gate. The nearest Metro Station of the India Gate is Central Secretariat.
